Established in January 2026, Green Empowerment for Development (GEFD) is a legally registered NGO driven by prominent women leaders. We are dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities in Yemen with recovery, resilience, and sustainable development programs.
Pioneering an Inclusive, Women-Led Green Recovery
Green Empowerment for Development (GEFD) was established by a team of dedicated humanitarian professionals—driven by strong female leadership—to tackle Yemen's most pressing developmental challenges. We recognized early on that true, long-lasting recovery requires a massive commitment to restoring our environment, seamlessly coupled with an unwavering dedication to empowering our most vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls.
Today, Yemen’s environmental degradation and damaged infrastructure pose a severe threat to community health and future generations. To combat this, 80% of our operational focus is actively directed toward large-scale green reconstruction, climate-resilient infrastructure, and combating desertification. However, we firmly believe that a rebuilt Yemen must be a fully accessible and equitable Yemen. That is why 30% of our core mission remains steadfastly devoted to breaking down barriers for women, children, and individuals with disabilities through specialized rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and the creation of safe spaces for play, learning, and recovery.
What truly defines our NGO is our Integrated Approach. We do not operate these programs in silos. Instead, we empower women and individuals with disabilities to become active architects of Yemen's ecological recovery. By engaging them in green skills training, sustainable agriculture, and community planting initiatives, we transform them from passive beneficiaries into active environmental leaders and economically resilient changemakers.
Driven by transparent project management and a commitment to measurable impact, our vision is clear: A resilient, green Yemen where sustainable communities thrive, and every individual—especially every woman and girl—has the power, the safe space, and the opportunity to shape the future.
To empower vulnerable populations in Yemen by delivering integrated, women-led programs that support recovery, strengthen resilience, and promote sustainable development. We enhance local capacities through rehabilitation, skills development, creation of safe spaces, and inclusive participation for all, especially women and youth.
To see a resilient, inclusive, and sustainably developed Yemen where communities recover from crisis, adapt to ongoing challenges, and thrive through gender equity, access to safe spaces, and equitable distribution of opportunities and essential services.
1. Support Recovery and Resilience: Enable conflict-affected communities to recover and build resilience against future shocks through integrated, locally led, and women-driven interventions.
2. Rehabilitation, Training & Safe Spaces: Provide targeted rehabilitation services, create safe spaces for empowerment, and offer vocational, technical, and life-skills training for vulnerable populations, prioritizing women, girls, youth, displaced persons, and persons with disabilities.
3. Promote Sustainable Livelihoods: Enhance income-generating opportunities through sustainable economic initiatives and green development approaches, ensuring women have equitable access to green economy opportunities and financial independence.
4. Strengthen Access to Essential Services: Improve access to water, renewable energy, education, and inclusive basic infrastructure—including safe recreational spaces—in underserved communities.
5. Advance Environmental Sustainability: Promote climate-resilient practices, natural resource management, and environmental protection by empowering women and youth as environmental stewards to ensure long-term sustainability.
6. Build Local Capacities and Governance: Strengthen the capacity of local institutions, civil society, and community groups to lead development efforts effectively and transparently, with a strong emphasis on fostering women's leadership and gender equity.
7. Foster Partnerships and Alignment with Global Frameworks: Collaborate with national, regional, and international stakeholders while aligning programs with global priorities such as resilience-building, gender equality, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our Programs: Leading Sustainable and Inclusive Recovery
Green Empowerment For Development (GEFD) delivers high-impact humanitarian and developmental programs designed to drive Yemen’s environmental recovery while ensuring the absolute inclusion of individuals with disabilities.
Our operational capacity is strategically distributed across three core pillars:
1. Green Reconstruction & Environmental Resilience (80% Core Focus) We lead large-scale initiatives to restore Yemen’s environment and rebuild communities sustainably. Our projects include rehabilitating damaged infrastructure with eco-friendly materials, combating desertification through extensive tree planting, and deploying renewable energy solutions. We implement comprehensive environmental awareness and waste management campaigns to build long-term climate resilience.
2. Specialized Disability Empowerment (30% Dedicated Focus) We provide vital, specialized support to children and youth with disabilities to ensure their dignity and independence. This includes facilitating access to inclusive education, delivering essential physical rehabilitation and psychosocial care, and providing customized assistive devices. We actively work with families to break down societal barriers and foster true social inclusion.
3. Integrated "Green Inclusion" Initiatives This is where our mission unifies. We design innovative programs where environmental action and disability empowerment intersect. A prime example is establishing accessible green spaces and agricultural training programs—such as adaptive gardening and eco-crafts—where individuals with disabilities are not just beneficiaries, but active leaders and skilled contributors to Yemen's sustainable development.
