Established in January 2026, Green Empowerment for Development (GEFD) is a woman-led, legally registered NGO committed to humanitarian and environmental excellence. Governed by a female-led strategic presidency, we are dedicated to transforming Yemen’s most vulnerable communities through sustainable recovery, climate resilience, and inclusive development programs. By merging transparent, accountable governance with innovative technical solutions, we ensure that every initiative empowers local communities and champions gender equity, building a foundation for a self-reliant and prosperous future."
Pioneering an Inclusive, Women-Led Green Recovery
Green Empowerment for Development (GEFD) was established by a team of dedicated humanitarian professionals—driven by strong female leadership—to tackle Yemen's most pressing developmental challenges. We recognized early on that true, long-lasting recovery requires a massive commitment to restoring our environment, seamlessly coupled with an unwavering dedication to empowering our most vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls.
Today, Yemen’s environmental degradation and damaged infrastructure pose a severe threat to community health and future generations. To combat this, 80% of our operational focus is actively directed toward large-scale green reconstruction, climate-resilient infrastructure, and combating desertification. However, we firmly believe that a rebuilt Yemen must be a fully accessible and equitable Yemen. That is why 30% of our core mission remains steadfastly devoted to breaking down barriers for women, children, and individuals with disabilities through specialized rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and the creation of safe spaces for play, learning, and recovery.
What truly defines our NGO is our Integrated Approach. We do not operate these programs in silos. Instead, we empower women and individuals with disabilities to become active architects of Yemen's ecological recovery. By engaging them in green skills training, sustainable agriculture, and community planting initiatives, we transform them from passive beneficiaries into active environmental leaders and economically resilient changemakers.
Driven by transparent project management and a commitment to measurable impact, our vision is clear: A resilient, green Yemen where sustainable communities thrive, and every individual—especially every woman and girl—has the power, the safe space, and the opportunity to shape the future.
To empower Yemen’s most vulnerable populations through strategic, woman-led programs that drive recovery, strengthen resilience, and foster sustainable development. We are committed to bridging the gap between humanitarian aid and long-term self-reliance by enhancing local capacities, rehabilitating essential infrastructure, and providing inclusive opportunities. By placing women and youth at the core of our strategic decision-making, we ensure that our interventions are not only effective and accountable but also transformative, fostering safe, equitable, and dignified futures for all
To envision a resilient, inclusive, and sustainably developed Yemen, led by empowered communities that thrive through gender equity, integrated green solutions, and equitable access to opportunities. We aspire to be the catalyst for a national recovery where women's strategic leadership and youth participation serve as the foundation for a prosperous, self-reliant, and sustainable future for all.

Our Programs: Leading Sustainable and Inclusive Recovery
Green Empowerment For Development (GEFD) delivers high-impact humanitarian and developmental programs designed to drive Yemen’s environmental recovery while ensuring the absolute inclusion of individuals with disabilities.
Our operational capacity is strategically distributed across three core pillars:
1. Green Reconstruction & Environmental Resilience (80% Core Focus) We lead large-scale initiatives to restore Yemen’s environment and rebuild communities sustainably. Our projects include rehabilitating damaged infrastructure with eco-friendly materials, combating desertification through extensive tree planting, and deploying renewable energy solutions. We implement comprehensive environmental awareness and waste management campaigns to build long-term climate resilience.
2. Specialized Disability Empowerment (30% Dedicated Focus) We provide vital, specialized support to children and youth with disabilities to ensure their dignity and independence. This includes facilitating access to inclusive education, delivering essential physical rehabilitation and psychosocial care, and providing customized assistive devices. We actively work with families to break down societal barriers and foster true social inclusion.
3. Integrated "Green Inclusion" Initiatives This is where our mission unifies. We design innovative programs where environmental action and disability empowerment intersect. A prime example is establishing accessible green spaces and agricultural training programs—such as adaptive gardening and eco-crafts—where individuals with disabilities are not just beneficiaries, but active leaders and skilled contributors to Yemen's sustainable development.
Focus Areas:
Recovery & Resilience: Building community capacity to withstand shocks, with a strategic focus on women-led resilience and community-based adaptation.
Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment: Driving economic independence through vocational training, entrepreneurship, and sustainable income models, with prioritized access for women and female-headed households.
Education & Skills Development: Ensuring quality education, technical, and life-skills programs, underpinned by our inclusive leadership approach that promotes equitable participation for all, especially girls and youth with disabilities.
Water, Energy & Infrastructure: Implementing safe water and renewable energy solutions, designed with community-led governance to ensure long-term sustainability and equitable resource distribution.
Environmental Sustainability: Leading climate-resilient practices and natural resource management through woman-led environmental stewardship, transforming local landscapes into sustainable ecosystems.
Governance & Capacity Building: Strengthening local institutions through our transparent, woman-led management frameworks, fostering accountable and inclusive leadership at the community level.
Community-Driven Governance: We ensure local ownership by embedding community leadership within our strategic decision-making process, ensuring interventions are culturally rooted and locally managed.
Integrated Strategic Solutions: We deliver holistic humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding interventions, unified by our woman-led strategic vision to ensure maximum cross-sectoral impact.
Inclusion & Gender Equity: We go beyond mere participation by prioritizing women, youth, and persons with disabilities in our leadership and operational frameworks, guaranteeing their role as active agents of change rather than just beneficiaries.
Accountable Partnerships: We leverage our transparent institutional infrastructure and international audit partnerships to build trust-based collaborations with national and global stakeholders.
Sustainability & Innovation: We champion climate-resilient practices and digital innovation, ensuring all solutions are environmentally responsible and aligned with transparent, data-driven institutional management.
